Lapwings and hares - Norfolk, April and May
The
idea of lapwings and hares viewed together on a marshy meadow in
spring always appeals, and I've tackled the subject many times; mostly in North Norfolk at Burnham Norton. The lapwings rising up with their
distinctive 'peewit' fluting call to tumble and dive in
display - then dropping back down to watch their patch and preen
among the meadow grasses, stands of club rush and spread of spearwort. The hares lying low almost invisible
in the grass, sometimes rising to stretch and groom or suddenly
breaking cover to chase one another. Its always a rich visual mix to watch and to try and draw out some new ideas from.
